SCHOOL BASED MENTORING - The first of its kind here in Routt County, Partners is offering an opportunity for adults and older youth (approx. 16yrs+) to mentor school students. This program differs from Community Based Mentoring in that it is only for the school year and there is more a focus on school-related support. This program provides volunteer mentors to all Routt County schools, not only the four serviced by the SBM program.

Mentors are matched with a student from 3rd – 12th grade and provide weekly regular check-ins. During these check-in times mentors and mentees focus on school-related issues. Mentors assist mentees in engaging in their school-work and classes, forming relationships with teachers and other adults at the school, completing school and homework tasks, maintaining relationships with peers at school, and other academic, social, and emotional support.

Mentors spend 1 hour per week with their mentees, virtually or in-person, at a time that is convenient for both parties. This may be broken into shorter sessions or done all at once depending on the student mentee’s needs and the mentor’s availability. During the COVD19 pandemic it is likely that all check-ins will be virtual as school visitors are being kept to an absolute minimum.

PARTNERS IN ROUTT COUNTY
MENTORING YOUTH

The Community Based Mentoring (CBM) program serves youth, ages six to 17 who benefit from having another trusted adult in their life.

Youth are referred to the program by community agencies and individuals such as school counselors, Department of Human Services, Integrated Community, and others. Each youth (Junior Partner) is carefully matched with an adult volunteer mentor (Senior Partner) that is recruited, screened, trained, and supervised by a PRC Case Manager.

Each Senior Partner makes a commitment to spend three hours a week for a minimum of 12 months with his or her Junior Partner. The Senior Partner serves as a friend, advocate, and role model to the Junior Partner.

PRC provides ongoing support and training to Senior Partners as well as monthly group recreational and life skill activities for partnerships to participate in.
